The Faithful Sunrise

Walking out of Planet Fitness on Cherry Road in Rock Hill the other morning, I caught a sunrise that made me stop and ponder. The beautiful skyline reminded me that God’s mercies are fresh every single day. I needed that! I’ll admit, in the middle of customer requests, deadlines, the email morass, family needs, and employee issues, I sometimes forget that truth. But His faithfulness isn’t tied to my circumstances OR my remembering it. Each day, He generously gives the mercy and strength I need—not more than I need, but always enough.  He is as faithful as the sunrise!

Lamentations 3:21–24 (NASB 2020) says: “I recall this to my mind, therefore I wait. The Lord’s acts of mercy indeed do not end, for His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I wait for Him.” A few words from that passage have stuck with me this week. Recall—remember how God has walked with me in the past; He hasn’t changed. Wait—He works in His timing, not mine- sometimes even (especially?) when my days seem very dark and challenging. Every—each sunrise testifies that His mercies never fail. The sun always comes up! Portion—He knows me and gives exactly what I need for that day.

That sunrise reminded me that God’s faithfulness is as sure as the dawn. I needed that, and maybe you do too. When your own list of worries and responsibilities greets you tomorrow, remember this: His mercies will meet you there. They have never failed, and they never will.
